The God Who Kills Babies

I have heard people say they like the God of the New Testament. They say He's a God of love, but they don't like the God of the Old Testament because He's a God of hate and often had innocent little babies killed.

The Bible says God does not change, He is the same God He has always been. He is the God of both the Old and New Testaments. There never was a time when He did not exist and there will never be a time when He will not exist.

Blessed be the Lord God of Israel From everlasting to everlasting! And all the people said, “Amen!” and praised the Lord. (I Chronicles 16:36 NKJV and others)

He is an absolutely righteous God. There is no unrighteousness in Him and He cannot be in the presence of unrighteousness. Any unrighteousness at all goes against His very being.

We see this in the Genesis creation account where everything He created He pronounced “good.” When He was finished creating He pronounced it all “very good.”

Then God saw everything that He had made, and indeed it was very good. So the evening and the morning were the sixth day. (Genesis 1:31 NKJV)

God loved mankind so much He gave them the opportunity to choose between being with Him or going off on their own by placing one tree among the abundance of the Garden and telling them to not touch it, for when they did they would be separated from Him.

but of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil you shall not eat, for in the day that you eat of it you shall surely die.” (Genesis 2:17 NKJV)

There was no sin, no unrighteousness at all, until Satan came in and persuaded Eve to go against God's righteousness and Adam soon followed her and ate as well.

But your iniquities have separated you from your God; And your sins have hidden His face from you, So that He will not hear. (Isaiah 59:2 NKJV)

At that point, sin, unGodliness, had entered the world and mankind had become separated from God. They were expelled from the presence of God Himself.

Over the course of time mankind became so full of evil without God He was sorry He had created them. The Bible says every thought of their heart was evil. He decided to remove evil from the earth and this brings us to the Noah and the Flood. When Noah obeyed God the rains came and all mankind, men, women, and children, save Noah and his family, were killed because of mankind's evil.

God's Word says in numerous places that babies and children are sinless. We are to mimic them in their innocence. In the Old Testament David says his infant son cannot return to him but he can go to be with him. In the New Testament Jesus himself says that unless we become as little children we cannot enter the kingdom of heaven. Yet when He destroyed evil people, innocent babies and children were destroyed along with them.

Here's a question...

If God destroyed evil people and left the innocent children, who would care for the innocent babies and children? They would then be plunged into even more peril.

Innocents leaving this world go instantly to be with God and He will care for them. They have to leave their earthly bodies in a manner which may be horrendous to them. When they leave this life they are immediately in the presence of God whose Word says...

And God will wipe away every tear from their eyes; there shall be no more death, nor sorrow, nor crying. There shall be no more pain, for the former things have passed away.” (Revelation 21:4 NKJV)

They will not remember any sorrow, nor crying, or pain in the loving presence and care of God.

The Old Testament shows what happens to mankind without God. The New Testament shows what happens to mankind with God. The Old Testament shows how man needs God. The New Testament shows how man needs His Son.

Whoever transgresses and does not abide in the doctrine of Christ does not have God. He who abides in the doctrine of Christ has both the Father and the Son. (II John 1:9 NKJV)
